Golf Art

Golf Art by Ricarda Simon is a tribute to the art of golf. It focuses on golf, the most challenging and fascinating sport in the world. You will only understand this statement if you play golf and love it. Otherwise, you might think I am crazy.

Golf is no longer a hobby for the "rich", although some stubborn people still want to believe that. Why is golf attracting more and more people? Golf is a challenge to the mind. Because you have to focus on a specific goal and create an individual strategy to achieve it. You have to focus on your individual golf swing. Golf increases your ability to concentrate. It can be seen as a form of meditation. You need a strong mind to be able to ignore external and internal distractions. Golf is also a physical challenge. A decent round of golf will make you walk about 7-10 km (unless you are a lazy type and use a cart).

Golf can also shape your personality in a positive way. Golf can make you humble, golf can reduce hubris. Golf can help increase your environmental awareness. Golf courses are often home to various animals such as bees, insects, birds, etc., thus promoting biodiversity. Playing golf can help you make friends or even find love for life.

« Golflady at Hole 1 » is a vibrant and dynamic piece that captures the essence of the game in a playful, minimalist style. The central figure, a woman in a boldly coloured golf dress, is frozen in mid-swing, exuding both power and grace. The artist's use of minimalism focuses the viewer's attention on the energy of the swing and the woman's confident stance. Several golf balls are scattered around her, suggesting a flurry of activity and alluding to the challenges and perseverance inherent in the sport. The overall effect is both stylish and spirited, celebrating the joy and athleticism of golf with a modern aesthetic.

« Golf Course at Hole 2 » offers a serene and surreal vision of the game, reducing the landscape to its essential elements with an ultra-minimalist approach. The artist uses clean lines and a calming palette of greens, blues and oranges to evoke a sense of tranquillity and otherworldly beauty. Flags and trees, rendered in simplified forms, dot the landscape, suggesting the familiar features of a golf course while maintaining an air of abstraction. The overall atmosphere is one of quiet contemplation, inviting the viewer to enter a dreamlike space where the boundaries between reality and imagination are blurred. Golf Course is not just a depiction of a place, but a meditation on the essence of the game and the serenity of nature.

« Coco Lores at Hole 3 » is a striking and thought-provoking artwork that combines the elegance of golf with a poignant commentary on the recent past. The minimalist image of a woman wearing a mask, despite the outdoor setting, immediately invites contemplation. A symbol of the COVID-19 crisis, the mask feels both familiar and surreal in this context, highlighting the fears and precautions that permeated even outdoor activities. The artist cleverly juxtaposes the freedom and leisure associated with golf with the constraints and fears of the pandemic era, creating a visual metaphor for a world facing unprecedented challenges. The title itself hints at hidden stories and perhaps a touch of irony, leaving the viewer to ponder the deeper implications of this masked figure on the green.

"Anonymous at Hole 4" delves into the realm of abstraction, offering a contemplative exploration of identity and the hidden aspects of the game. Dominated by a palette of blues and greys, the artwork creates a sense of ambiguity and introspection. At its heart is the faint suggestion of a golfer, visible only on close inspection - a subtle head and club emerging from the depths of the abstract form. This deliberate obscurity speaks to the anonymity that can be found even in a highly individual sport. The golfer, lost in the washes of colour, becomes a symbol of the unseen, the overlooked and the universal experience of being part of something greater than oneself. Anonymous at Hole 8 challenges the viewer to look beyond the surface and find the hidden human element within the abstract landscape.

The artwork ‘Golf Swing’ captures the meditative and flowing movement of a golf swing in a minimalist but impressive style. The golfer in her bright, colourful dress is depicted in the middle of her swing. The artist masterfully uses simple lines and bold colours to convey the concentrated power of the swing. The focus is entirely on the action itself - the concentration on the swing. Golf Swing is a celebration of the art of golf and the beauty of a well-executed movement reduced to its purest form.

"Hole in One at Hole 6" explodes with a symphony of dynamic colour, capturing the exhilarating rush of achieving the near-impossible. The artwork abandons representational form, relying instead on the emotional power of colour to convey the sheer exhilaration of the perfect shot. Each vibrant hue dances and collides with the next, reflecting the surge of adrenaline and overwhelming sense of accomplishment that washes over the golfer in that rare and special moment. More than just a visual representation, Hole in One is an emotional embodiment of that fleeting moment of triumph, inviting the viewer to experience the unbridled joy and energy of a dream come true.

« Birdie at Hole 7 » presents a charming tableau, a playful juxtaposition of nature and sport. A vibrant bird, bursting with a kaleidoscope of colour, perches confidently on a pristine white golf ball. The scene is imbued with a sense of lightheartedness and whimsy, as if nature itself is celebrating a successful game. The colourful bird acts as a symbol of good fortune, a visual representation of 'birdie' - a score under par. Birdie at Hole 7 is a joyful reminder of the unexpected moments of beauty and serendipity that can be found both on and off the golf course.

"Champion Team" presents a heartwarming portrait of camaraderie and triumph. Five women stand shoulder to shoulder, their figures reduced to their most essential forms: colourful dresses, slender legs and beaming smiles. Four golf bags suggest their shared passion, while one woman is embodying the vital role of the caddy. The absence of arms only enhances her openness and vulnerability, drawing the viewer in with an irresistible sense of innocence and joy. "Champion Team" celebrates the power of teamwork, the beauty of simplicity and the pure, unadulterated joy of achieving a common goal.

In 'The Golf Buddies' the artist achieves something quietly revolutionary: a yellow bird, a blue worm, an orange rabbit and a red cat - natural enemies in the wild - stand shoulder to shoulder, golf clubs at the ready, united by their shared passion for the game. The painting's naive style, with its uncomplicated lines and sunny colours, makes the scene seem like a whimsical truce. No chasing, no hiding - just four unlikely comrades discussing golf. It's a celebration of how something as simple as golf sport can dissolve old rivalries, if only for eighteen holes. The kind of artwork that makes you think: if these guys can get along, maybe there's hope for the rest of us.
